Music

Good morning kids!

It's Wednesday and this usually means we're half way through... but alas! We're in a four day week and it means we're ever closer to all of the chocolate we could possibly imagine.

As you probably know by now myself and Mel are quite into hip hop - we try our best anyway. When we find ourselves alone in the office we tend to throw out a variation of hip hop from both of our playlists. You would tend to hear the likes of the A$AP mob, Kendrick Lamar, Biggie Smalls, Wu-Tang Clan, Erykah Badu, Jurassic 5, Tyler the Creator and so on … Anyway it’s with a heavy heart that today I will be writing about the music of Phife Dawg and A Tribe Called Quest.

Phife Dawg was a founding member of A Tribe Called Quest who passed away last night at the very young age of 45 and so I feel there’s only one thing to do but celebrate his/their amazing lyrics, beats, production and their influential force on east-coast rap in today’s post.

Below are our favourite tracks by ‘the five footer’ and the lads. So sit back and enjoy …

Thank you for the music …

Hey everyone!

HAPPY ST PATRICK’S DAY!

The sun is shining in the Baltic Triangle and everyone is in a lovely mood. I’ve accidentally come to work looking like a bit of a leprechaun, I’ve dyed my hair orange and I’m wearing a bottle green dress. Whoops. Oh well.

We can’t wait to get out into the sunshine and have a little Jameson’s in honour of St Paddy’s day. Which is quite the celebration in Liverpool, because we’re basically all Irish anyway.

Anyway, I digress. I’m here to bring you our track of the week! So this week, ours is a little joint one. We’re both massive fans of The Last Shadow Puppets (I feel really guilty writing this because Cassie didn’t get a ticket to their upcoming tour). They released a new song and video this week which we’re both in love with.

The song itself is much more typical of The Last Shadow Puppets sound. Their last two, ‘Bad Habits’ and ‘Everything You’ve Come To Expect’ were a little different to their usual vibe. So our joint track of the week is ‘Aviation’ by The Last Shadow Puppets.

I’m in love with the video and I love how it’s telling a story in reverse! So I’m dead excited to see the next one.

Also, Cassie has been educating me in the ways of house music this week. I have got a super eclectic music taste, however house or EDM is something I can never get into. This week she’s shown me some really good stuff though that is starting to change my mind! I’m a changed woman.

So my fave from my little expedition through house music this past week, is this is As You Were (Original Mix) by Pierce Fulton. It may be awful to all you house fanatics but I like it, and bare with me, I’m new here.

Right, we’re off to get a whisky in the sunshine, because why not.

See ya later!

Hey!

Happy hump day everyone.

So Cassie’s away this week so this week’s musical interlude will be coming solo from Mel.

It usually takes me ages to decide what song to pick out when Cassie asks me. As it usually depends on what mood I’ve been in, what I’ve been reading, where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing.

This week’s track of the week is based on a recommendation from a friend. After texting to see if he was doing our usual hot yoga, he told me he was going to see this guy, Ady Suleiman. Naturally, I had to check out who was good enough to give up yoga for.

He played in Manchester last night and is a LIPA graduate, and he’s pretty damn good. His voice is gorgeous and his music has got a great chilled, reggae vibe. Listening to him is already making me think of late Summer nights with sunshine and beer and friends and music.

He’s also playing Park Life in the Summer, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he’ll be making an appearance at Sound City or LIMF some time soon.

My favourite so far is - Need Somebody To Love.

But, What’s the Score is also really good.

Hey Kids,

So we’ve had a bit of a crazy week - we are running a compeition to win your very own Ostrich Pillow over on our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts and you guys seem to really want to look like a crazy alien like person! Go enter if you haven’t on any of the channels.

As we’ve been keeping up with all of you entries we got a little bit delayed with our baby ‘Coffee & Craic’. Although we got back on track yesterday - Did you guys read Mel’s blog about her one year with JUXDIT? Holy moly there are some STUNNING images to go with it you need to check it out! AND HERE IS WHERE YOU CAN!

Normally we throw out our track of the week on a Wednesday but as I said we are a lil behind schedule - FORGIVE US WE’RE ONLY HUMAN - and so here we go … Cassie & Mel’s tracks of the week! *APPLAUSE AND CHEER*

So Mel first …

Low Life - Future ft. The Weeknd

Besides the fact that it’s an absolute lil’ gem when it comes to its lyrics it’s also more importantly the exact length of time that it takes Mel to drive to her local Tesco! Isn’t that the only reason we

love music anyway?

Cassie time …

So, my favourite of the week is Miguel ‘Waves’ and numerous remixes of it. I seem to struggle to just pick one track every week!

I got a reminder of one of my favourite summer tunes of last year this day last week when he decided to release a couple of remixes of it! Now that the sun is creeping out I'm feeling super summery finally and I mean why not bleed a great track for everything it’s got? ‘Rogue Waves’ includes Tame Impala, Travis Scott and Kacey Musgraves. All found below ...

Any remix in particular your favourite?

Till next week …

Happy Wednesday ya’ll!

So the lovely Mel has returned to JUXDIT HQ after a few days hiking in Wales and so you will be treated to both of our favourite musical jams this week.

So as we are now hitting the end of February I started to think about all the new music I am planning on being treated to this year (AGAIN, Mr. Ocean I’m looking at you!). Another album I have been very excited about and is meant to be due this month is the MF Doom and Ghostface KIllah collaboration.

It’s been a good few years now that we have heard of this possibly happening. Last year to my delight Ghostface Killah confirmed the album was on route - DOOMSTARKS! February 2016 was the time of year he was shouting about and look how time flies and here we are in said month. No music except Lively Hood (link below) just yet but we did get some deadly artwork on Ghostface Killah’s facebook page by Digital Death and Grime. So hopefully music is coming any day now!

Here is the two lads in action on Lively Hood

Here is some MF Doom to get you through this week

I would listen to this beat by itself for hours … seriously!

Annnnddd… one of my favourite albums of all time is the wonderful Wu Tang Clan’s, Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers

I was very lucky in the summer 2013 to see the guys (Wu-Tang Clan) perform twice - Once at Balaton Sound Festival in Hungary and then again at Electric Picnic in Ireland.

Check us out below in Hungary you can see a little Irish flag somewhere near the front and that will be us there going mental to finally see one of our favourite groups!

So enough of me blabbing on about me and my best friends, it’s time for Mel’s track of the week.

She has chosen Morrissey's ‘First of the gang to die’. I gave Mel ‘Perks of being a Wallflower’ by Stephen Chbosky to read a couple of weeks back which is the reason behind the Morrissey/Smiths lovin this week. Charlie the lead character and most wonderful person ever (no exaggeration at all … well maybe a little)  is a big Smiths fan and the song ‘Asleep’ is referenced numerous times throughout the novel. Apart from this reason and probably not so innocent it also reminds Mel of dancing in her friend's attic room having a few sneaky drinks and tip-toeing out at all hours! Morrissey would approve Mel.

Tune in next week to see what we have been listening to and why. Oh and please get in touch with us about what you’re listening to, what you feel we should listen to or just for a general chat about music, crowdfunding and everything in between!

Wednesday is upon us again! Seriously, the days are going by waaaay too fast. So while I type these few sentences and try to prevent my body from going into hypothermia, the lovely Mel is off climbing a mountain somewhere in Wales … fool!

Which means today for our track of the week installment you will just be getting the one from myself and it is DBM’s - ‘Squeeze’ released on the 11th of this month.

I’m all for anything that makes me wanna get up and dance first thing in the morning, which is exactly what I’ve been at drinking my coffee in a freezing cold flat since its release. I feel like I shouldn’t like it but those sped up ragga vocals … I’m all for right now!

GO PEOPLE GO LISTEN ... Oh and let us know what you think!

Yesterday was a bit of a new music filled Thursday. We finally got the new Kanye album title cover and tracklist. Sorry Kanye but the most exciting part about all those announcements was seeing Frank Ocean’s name appearing alongside track 9 ‘Wolves’ (Although previously performed on SNL with Sia and Vic Mensa). I feel like I’ve waited 50 years to hear some fresh Frank so this snippet shall do Sir till your next release.

Two huge fan girls of James Blake right here in JUXDIT HQ. If you  were tuned into BBC Radio 1’s Residency yesterday you will have heard some new music by the man himself. HURRAY!

Similar to his last cover of ‘Sound of Silence’ it’s a chill down track with those spine tingling vocals and on point accompaniment(always builds up anticipation in my chest). This has us super excited for 'Radio Silence' his forthcoming album due this year.

James Blake's latest 'Modern Soul' right here.

Mel's favourite Mr. Ocean track - Pyramids & Super Rich Kids ft. Earl Sweatshirt (Couldn't choose just the one)

Mel's favourite Mr. Blake track - The Wilhelm Scream

Cassie's favourite Mr. Ocean track - Pink Matter ft. Andre 3000

Cassie's favourite Mr. Blake track - Take a fall for me ft. RZA

I'm gonna take two here - Life round here

Alright lads and ladies?

Every week myself and Mel will throw up our track of the week which will include things like mini reviews, events, memories etc. So you will see and hear everything from golden oldies to classic hits and new releases. Enjoy!

Mel -

So Mel couldn’t decide on one track this week and went for ANTI the latest Rihanna release (Jan 28th 2016). Here’s what she had to say …

It’s a bit darker from her usual stuff and you can hear influences from The Weeknd who she is touring with and I’m going to see in June! My personal favourite from the album is ‘Same Ol’ Mistakes’ so far and no wonder as it's a cover of Tame Impala's 'New Person,Same Old Mistakes' and we are big Tame Impala fans here in JUXDIT.

She’s had some great producers work on it such as Jeff Bhasker (Kanye’s 808s Heartbreak, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch the Throne) but so far I’m not feeling it although after a few more listens this may change!

Mel to Cassie: ‘God there’s a song on Rihanna’s album called ‘Higher’, listen to it. It’s horrible. Her voice sounds so strained”.

p.s. Mel’s scared that Rihanna’s clique are gunna come and get me for saying that, sorry RiRi.

Check out ANTI over on Spotify and let us know what you think!

Cassie -

So my track of the week is Four Tets latest Soundcloud release (4/2/2016) which is a club version of Jamie XX’s summer release ‘SeeSaw’.

I’ve probably listened to this version everyday since Thursday because it fills me with so much happiness thinking about Summer 2015 and Jamie XX’s ‘In Colour’ being the soundtrack of it.

Four Tet (Kieran Hebden) collaborated on SeeSaw on ‘In Colour’ so it was no wonder it’s probably my favourite track on the album as I’m a huge fan of his!

I’m going to get to check out Jamie XX again this summer so I’ll be listening to this until then. You can check out last week’s release right here - https://soundcloud.com/four-tet/tracks

Oh hey there kids, Cassie here!

I will try, with a little help from my friend (I promise no more cheesy music lyrics, I swear that was accidental and it hurts me that we are based in Liverpool and it was a Beatles lyric) Mel, to fill this space with our musical adventures, opinions, playlists to share with all you lovely people.

Hey I’m no musical genius, dj or rock god but I do love music and the emotions it brings out in people (strolling down the street in the lashing rain with the biggest grin on your face because your favourite tune just came on - BEST FEELING EVER!). You will hopefully discover an array of genres, experiences and opinions here and I would love to hear from you all!

We will feature our JUXDIT Music Quiz every Friday and we shall have a periscope hopefully up and running very shortly for you guys to join in the fun too!

Our Spotify playlist can be found right here - and we update this as frequently as possible so you guys will always have something to bop to on a Friday night or support you on a Monday morning.

This will probably end up being a musical rollercoaster but hey, we've no doubt it's gonna be great fun!

Cassie
